US President Donald Trump’s eldest daughter Meghan, first lady Melania Trump and their son Barron have donated $250 million to the US military in the first year of the Trump administration, according to a statement from the White House.
The US Army, Navy, Marine Corps and Air Force have all made commitments to the Trump-administration to provide military assistance to the troops.
US Secretary of Defense James Mattis has also pledged $2 billion to the military, including the $1 billion allocated for the US Army.
Trump, who took office in January, has repeatedly called for more US military spending and has pledged to spend more on the military.
In September, he said the US would “pursue a strategy of military power”.
“Our military will be the greatest and most powerful force on earth.
We are going to be the dominant military force on the planet,” Trump said in a speech at West Point.
“It will be for the good of our country, and I want to be very clear about that.”
Trump has said he wants to spend $100 billion on the US defence.
“I think we have got to be able to get back to a time when we were spending more on defence than any other country on the face of the planet, but that means not only on our own, but on the defence of our allies, and we’re going to do that,” he said at the time.
Trump has also said he would “make it a point to be as good as we can be” with US military assistance, including giving more military assistance.

“We’re going through a period of change.
We’re not going to have our military as strong as it’s ever been, but we’re also not going in the wrong direction.
We have to be ready to defend ourselves,” he told the Wall Street Journal in January.
“But we’re not being aggressive enough.
We need to be really smart, and smart enough to be careful.”
